It was quite an eventful few hours for the crowd at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. First, they were treated to the Royal Blood throwing a quite spectacular Rock and Roll on-stage tantrum before insulting the entire audience and storming off-stage followed by the act they certainly all did know the name of Lewis Capaldi. Despite his set being after the 9pm watershed, the BBC asked the Scot to refrain from swearing and in typical fashion, Lewis’s response to that was ‘Fuck em’ and had the entire festival join in with a round of ‘Fuck em then!!’

But Lewis is an all-around entertainer, capable of making us laugh, dance and cry all in one tight sixty-minute set, but despite being such a talented singer, some of his very best moments have also happened offstage…

The Gallaghers…

In early June of 2019 Noel Gallagher gave an interview to Radio X to share his generally negative worldview, describing new music as ‘wank’ and asking “Who’s this Capaldi fella? Who the fuck’s that idiot?”. As an Oasis fan Capaldi took this in his stride, playing the clip on his instagram stories throughout the day and wishing Noel a happy fathers day. Capaldi took the trolling to another level when he walked out to his Glastonbury set to a remix of the interview, doubling down by wearing a parka that most might associate more strongly with Noel’s brother Liam…very impressive work.

NOT worth…

Peter’s honest insights into the world of celebrity (like being skint) are what makes his twitter account such gold. I’ve always wondered if there was any truth in celebrity “net worths” and Lewis’ furrowed brow answers my question.

“Would you like a rim”

Lewis Capaldi managed to get almost all the way through his BBC Breakfast interview with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt without incident, and then Naga ‘offered’ him a rim…

The Scottish Beyonce…

To promote the release of his first studio album Capaldi embarked on a billboard campaign that turned a few heads. Alongside a sunglassed shower selfie that hid half of Capaldi’s face were the words “The Scottish Beyoncé on a London Underground Billboard. Finally famous.” Obscuring ones own likeness and name-checking a more famous musician before yourself are hardly established promotional tools, but seemed to work for Capaldi, as his debut album spent five weeks at #1 and was the best-selling UK album in the five years before its release.

Doing album promo…

Some twitter users didn’t take kindly to Lewis plugging his 2019 debut online, but Lewis took it in his stride as always, telling the haters where to get off…
