Love Charles, hate him, or think that the monarchy is an outdated institution that keeps the UK in the past, the new King is undeniably a funny old man, and has been an excellent source of memes over the years.

Dancing Charles…

Ten years ago King (then Prince) Charles did a little jig on camera, to commemorate his mothers Platinum Jubilee. The Queen might have passed but these images are going nowhere in a hurry.

Sausage Fingers…

After being photographed pouring pints in South London in 2021, Charles has found it hard to distract from his swollen ‘sausage fingers’ – he’s even getting coronated today and it’s still being discussed! The story went so international that a New Zealand butcher even honored the monarch with his very own line of ‘Prince Charles Sausage Finger” sausages.

Signing Grumpy

When Charles became King shortly after his mother died he was recorded signing papers and documents as part of the process, but his grumpy demeanour caught the public’s attention and quickly became the story.

Tampongate…

Less of a meme and more of a disturbing reality, the then-Prince Charles was recorded by some naughty journalists on the phone to Camilla Parker-Bowles, just months after separating from Diana. In a moment of extremely cringe 1980s phone sex, Charles expressed a wish to be brought back into this world as Camilla’s Tampax, to be as close to her as possible. It’s, I suppose, romantic, in an odd and gross kind of way, and upped the ante as far as annoying girlfriend questions go: “Would you still love me if you were my tampax?” Most younger people might not have been aware of the conversation until The Crown brought it back in season 5. If you want to hear the real thing, listen here, at your peril.

Rasta Charles

On a visit to Jamaica Charles met Rita Marley, Bob’s daughter, in one of the more unlikely meetings of the 21st century. With his cool eye for fashion intact, Charles ‘experimented’ with wearing it backwards, like he’d seen young people do with other caps. The trend did not hold.

Mock the Charles…

Though now off the telly for good, Mock The Week used to do a regular send-up of Charles, as voiced by series regular Hugh Denis, who seemed to understand the man perfectly.
