GB News has taken significant action in light of recent events on one of its live broadcasts. Initially, the channel suspended Laurence Fox after he made derogatory comments about journalist Ava Evans. During an interview with Dan Wootton, Fox questioned what “self-respecting man” would want to be with Ava Evans, a political journalist. His remarks were in response to PoliticsJOE reporter Ava Evans’ comments on the BBC, where she stated that calls for a minister for men “feed into the culture war.”

However, the repercussions didn’t end with Fox. Dan Wootton, the host of the show where the comments were made, has also been suspended from GB News. Before his suspension, Wootton had issued an apology for the comments made during the interview, expressing regret over the incident. GB News was quick to distance itself from Fox’s remarks, releasing a statement shortly after the broadcast that described the comments as “totally unacceptable.”

The channel has announced that it is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter. In a statement, GB News mentioned, “GB News has formally suspended Laurence Fox while we continue our investigation into comments he made on the channel last night. Mr Fox’s suspension is effective immediately and he has been taken off air. We will be apologising formally to Ms Evans today.” Following this, they added, “GB News has suspended Dan Wootton following comments made on his programme by Laurence Fox last night.”

Fox defended his comments in a social media post, stating, “I stand by every word of what I said.” Regulatory body Ofcom has confirmed that they have received complaints about Fox’s comments and is currently assessing them against broadcast rules.

This story is still unfolding, and more updates are anticipated in the near future.
