France has its cheese, Germany has its cars, Australia has (look it up) its camel meat, and we have comedy. In fact if there’s one thing this country does exceptionally well, it’s comedy panel shows, guaranteed to make you chuckle in a tight 30 minute slot. Let’s dive in to the all time top five British panel show moments.

#5: Mock the Week – Can’t Stop Swearing

An oldie but a goodie, Mock the Week is preparing to bow out after 17 years and 22 seasons, so it felt important to include this classic moment of chaos from the stellar original lineup, featuring legendary potty mouth Frankie Boyle, a boyish Russel Howard, early Peep Show David Mitchell, classic residents Hugh Dennis and Andy Parsons, host Dara O’Brian and Fiona Allen. After being told that in the previous week they’d exceeded the acceptable number of F-bombs the panel went all in, nearly driving Dara to distraction.

#4: Big Fat Quiz – Sean Lock Hates Kids

A hilarious piece of grumpy-old-manism from Sean Lock, in this bit Sean goes all-in a primary school class that had just performed a news item for the panelists to guess, calling it “some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen” and leaving the studio in tears.

#3: Eight Out Of Ten Cats – Jimmy Carr’s Tax Troubles

Nothing is funny like a comedy panellists being dragged for their presence in the news that week, and panel show titan Jimmy Carr was spared no punches when he became the figurehead of a huge tax avoidance scandal. One pounding from Sean Lock, Sara Milligan, Micky Flanagan and Jon Richardson later the tax was repaid in full.

#2: Would I Lie To You – Bob Mortimer is in your Garden

Bob Mortimer is the king of WILTY, consistently coming out with the most ludicrous stories that are impossible to tell as either lies or truth. This hilarious tale about growing up in Middlesborough will be relatable to both everybody and nobody, making it perfect for the game…

#1: 8 Out of 10 Cats – Sean Lock’s Carrot In a Box

It’s a simple game of bluff: One box with a carrot inside, one without, the winner is whoever finishes the game with the carrot, only one person knows where it is to start. Or that was the plan anyway. With his trademark chaotic grumpiness, the late Sean Lock had the ability to inject humour into any situation, even root vegetable location, and allowed him to pull off the most impressive trick of confidence ever seen on TV. Stick that in your pipe Derren Brown.
