With King Charles officially taking the torch from old Queen Liz, it’s time for a look back at some of the funniest moments of her 70-year reign.
#5: 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony ft. James Bond
After years of serving on her Majesty’s secret service, Bond and the Queen finally came face to face in mid 2012, to make a short film with Danny Boyle for the Olympic opening ceremony. After being picked up from her home in Buckingham Palace, the Queen and Bond fly in a chopper to Stratford, where she then throws herself out the plane and parachutes down to join the stadium audience. Grandmothers around the country (including my own) were utterly convinced that the queen did genuinely parachute, and it took some very patient conversations to explain how TV editing works.
#4: The Queen’s Cows
As somebody who’s been waited on hand-and-foot for her entire life, it’s nice to know that Liz can still get a kick out of the little things. Her adorably human reaction to seeing some cows (“Look! Cows”) is a welcome reminder that she’s just like the rest of us, albeit with ridiculous wealth and a grip on power considered undemocratic in the 21st century.
#3: The OLD Guard
As something of an expert in age, the Queen is more qualified than the rest of us to call somebody old, but her comments in this clip took everybody by surprise.

#2: Picture Perfect
Prince Philip joins the list at number two, for a comment made in 2015 while he was still alive. By far the tamest of Phil’s potty mouthed, sometimes racist remarks, here he barks at a photographer to “just take the fucking picture”, probably bored after sitting through literally hundreds of family snaps before. At least he doesn’t have to pose for ever penny like the Queen.

#1: Vibe Check
Queen Liz of all people should know that bad vibes in the family make for bad vibes all round, making it little surprise that she high-tails it away as soon as she sees Prince George’s aggressive baking. You can’t blame her – that outfit can’t have come cheap.
